We all love a great hotel deal. To help you get a good price the next time you want to book accommodation, here are some top tips.
1. Count on Price Drops
With plenty of hotel comparisons sites online, you don’t have to do all the work alone. Sign up for email notifications and the sites will let you know if and when room prices go down on your preferred hotels. For instance, if you make a reservation for one of the best boutique hotels in Thailand, the site will track your rate, and some will refund you if a cheaper option pops up.
2. Book Blind
Did you know that you can save as much as 60% with mystery bookings? The site won’t tell you where you’re going to be staying until you’ve paid, or some sites will offer discounts if you allow them to choose one of four hotels for you.
3. Consider Lesser Known Hotels
Many smaller boutique hotels don’t pay site commissions, so you won’t find them on the comparison sites. When you call the hotel directly, you often get to talk to the manager or owner who has the power to offer a discount. If you want excellent savings, go directly to the source.
4. Use Coupons
Look around online and you’re sure to find coupons for accommodation in your desired location. The coupons are offered by the owners of hotels and often beat advertised deals on larger websites.
5. Find Out What Others are Paying
Many sites let you find out what other travellers have paid and can even identify those mystery hotels that keep their location and names secret until you secure a booking.
6. Talk to Local Tourist Offices
In some countries, tourist offices offer hotel-finding services if you need to book for the same day. It’s a great way to have an actual person find the hotel room that well suits your appetite.
7. Be Wary of Advanced Payments
If you do want to book with a site or service that insists on upfront payment, make sure you carefully read all the fine print. Also, make sure you know how much will be charged if you have to make a cancellation.
8. Check Out Daily Deals
Many sites offer a deal of the day for travel accommodation, just have to act quickly.
9. Choose a Package
If you’re just travelling to one destination, search for deals that include your airfare, car rental and hotel. These sometimes work out more affordable than buying each component on its own.
10. Use Travel Reward Points
Many credit card companies offer points that can be used towards a hotel stay. Using these points for free stays at excellent locations and hotels is probably one of the best deals the travel industry offers, you just have to know about them to take advantage of great deals!
